How OSRSBest works

Understand OSRSBest’s equipment data, estimated prices, optimization limits and how to report a problem.

A starting point for your next upgrade

OSRSBest is a free, independent Old School RuneScape equipment planner. Choose a combat style, enter your levels and budget, and explore a candidate setup. It is built to make comparing options easier; “best” always depends on the account and activity.

The project is open source. It is not affiliated with Jagex or the OSRS Wiki. RuneScape and Old School RuneScape are trademarks of Jagex Ltd.

Where the data comes from

The equipment catalogue is extracted from OSRS Wiki data and bundled with the application. Prices are fetched through the OSRS Wiki prices service and may be cached. Neither source guarantees that an item is available to buy at the displayed estimate.

Catalogue updates and price updates happen separately. New items, balance changes and unusual equipment may be missing or incomplete. Verify important requirements, item effects and prices on the Wiki and in game before purchasing.

What the calculator can and cannot tell you

The calculator filters candidates using supported level requirements and item categories, then searches for equipment within the requested budget. Treat its result as a candidate for review rather than proof of a globally optimal setup.

The total budget includes the selected equipment, including locked items. It does not deduct your bank, budget for supplies or model your time to unlock rewards. A zero price should never be read as a guarantee that an item is freely obtainable.

Equipment bonuses are different from encounter performance. Special attacks, set effects, spell selection, ammunition effects, prayers, potions, movement and boss phases may not be fully represented. Consult an encounter-specific strategy and damage calculator for those decisions.

Help improve the next recommendation

If a result looks wrong, report the combat style, budget, levels, filters and item names through the project’s GitHub issues. A share link and a description of what you expected make a report easier to reproduce. Do not include account credentials or other private information.

Guide pages describe a planning process rather than frozen price lists. Their linked Wiki references are the place to check the latest detailed game mechanics.
